Free tools for a GIS practical

QGIS and a public-domain coastline are enough for the exercise. No paid software is required.

The GIS practical in the proposed coastal programme uses QGIS, which is free under the GNU General Public License, and a Natural Earth coastline at 1:10,000,000, which is public domain. QGIS works offline after it is installed. No required version number is published yet. The exercise file is an orientation layer. Area is calculated only after the data are in the right projected coordinate system. This note does not set a fee.
